Mount Rose Ski Tahoe is a Nevada ski resort on Slide Mountain in the Sierra Nevada, near Reno, Incline Village, and Lake Tahoe, and is the closest ski area to Reno. Opened in 1953 as Reno Ski Bowl, it hosted the first NCAA Skiing Championships in 1954 and was later prepared as an alternate downhill site for the 1960 Winter Olympics, though it was never needed. Its present form dates to the 1987 merger of the separate Slide Mountain and Mount Rose ski areas. Known for high elevation, broad terrain, and strong snowfall, it remains an important regional resort despite hazards such as wind and wildfire.
