Transportation
9
Near this spot, George Montgomery and Andrew Smith established a ferry in 1886. Charges were fifty cents for man and horse and seventy five cents for team and wagon. It was the only means of crossing the Snake River between Starrh's Ferry and American Falls, a distance of 60 miles, and the one connection between the two railroad stations at Kelton, Utah, and Minidoka, Idaho. Operation continued for 33 years until the bridge was built.
