Frank Altobello was born in New York City and grew up in the Bronx. At age 19 he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and was deployed to the South Pacific, where he received critical injuries. After recuperating, he and his wife Hutchie moved to Okeechobee in 1949. Frank established the Western Auto business, and Hutchie, an RN, worked at Lottie Raulerson hospital. After 17 years with Western Auto, Frank sold the business, entered real estate sales, and eventually invested in commercial real estate. He became successful in business and established a foundation to fund organizations that provide services to the people of Okeechobee County. Hutchie said, "Frank, I believe the best thing that ever happened to you is when you moved to Okeechobee."
