Near this location one hundred years ago, T.J. Wright and fellow Illinois Central Railroad conductors founded Division No. 1 Conductors Brotherhood, which later became The Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen, the second oldest railway labor union in the United States, representing the man on the road. Founded initially as a fraternal organization, the ORC&B today functions primarily to improve wages, working conditions, and the health and welfare of the men it represents on railroads throughout the United States and in Canada.
