In 1827, Martin Harris gave $50.00 to Prophet Joseph for the Lord's work. He was a scribe to the Prophet. He mortgaged part of his farm to pay $3,000.00 to print the first 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon. He was one of the 3 witnesses of the divinity of the Book of Mormon. He held in his hands the Golden Plates, saw an Angel, and heard the voice of God. In 1831 he went to Missouri with the Prophet and others. Jackson Co was designated as the gathering place of the Saints, and a site for the building of a temple was selected and dedicated. He was sustained a member of the Kirtland High Council in 1834. Under the direction of the Prophet he assisted Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer in selecting members of the 1st Quorum of twelve Apostles. He remained steadfast in his testimony and died at Clarkston, Utah, on July 10, 1875.
