Mount Fairchild is a six thousand nine hundred-foot glaciated summit in Olympic National Park on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula and the second-highest peak in the Bailey Range. Visible from Hurricane Ridge in clear weather, it stands near Mount Carrie and Ruth Peak, with slopes that feed tributaries of the Elwha River and glaciers including the Fairchild Glacier at the head of Fairchild Creek. The mountain and nearby features were named for pilot William R. Fairchild, whose aerial photography aided glacier research in the Olympics and across western North America. Its first recorded ascent was in nineteen sixty-three, and its official name was adopted in nineteen seventy-five.
