Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park near Luraville protects Peacock and Bonnet Springs, sinkholes, trails, wildlife, and one of the largest underwater cave systems in the continental United States. Formed in limestone karst, the Peacock system contains more than 38,000 feet of explored passageway and has drawn cave divers from around the world for decades. Exploration and surveys expanded knowledge of the network, including a 2010 connection that added 10,000 feet to the mapped system. Six sinkholes within the park connect to the caves. The park has also expanded in size and adopted protective rules to limit damage while supporting recreation and cave-diving training.
