Bullhead Point in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, preserves the shallow-water remains of three ships that once hauled limestone for the Sturgeon Bay Stone Company. Burned there in 1931, the wrecks of the Empire State, the Oak Leaf, and the Ida Corning can still be seen from shore when lake levels are low. Together, they form both a visible link to the area’s working waterfront and an archaeological record of Great Lakes commercial shipping. The site captures a small but important cross-section of the vessels and industrial activity tied to stone hauling in Sturgeon Bay.
