Originally named Acadie, Acadia took its new name in the 1830's. Jim Bowie, hero of the Alamo, and his family owned it from 1827 to 1831. Its house was consolidated into one building from two Creole cottages and a shotgun house. Other owners included Phillip Barton Key, nephew of Francis Scott Key, and Andrew Donelson, nephew of Rachel Jackson, wife of Andrew Jackson. Federal troops camped there during the Civil War. It is now owned by descendants of Ann Barton Key, mother of Phillip Barton Key.
