The Pinchot Sycamore has a circumference of 23 feet 7 inches and is associated with the memory of Gifford Pinchot, who was born in Simsbury, Connecticut, in 1865 and died in 1946. He was a co-founder of the Yale School of Forestry, the first chief of the U.S. Forestry Service, a conservation advisor to President Theodore Roosevelt, and Governor of Pennsylvania. In 1978, it was re-dedicated as a gift to the town of Simsbury by Charles Schnier.
