McLean Game Refuge is a 4,400-acre nature preserve centered in Granby, Connecticut, with sections extending into Simsbury and Canton. George P. McLean began assembling it after returning to his family farm in 1903, expanded it after an inheritance in 1905, and later hosted political guests there while serving in the U.S. Senate, where he helped pass the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. The refuge contains notably varied geology and glacial features, and Amos Everett George and his sons helped shape it through trail and hut building. After McLean’s death in 1932, the property passed to the McLean Fund, and today it remains a publicly accessible preserve valued for hiking, wildlife, and evidence of prehistoric Indigenous use.
