The archaeological site of Delphi was placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List on 11 December 1987 under criteria I, II, III, IV and VI, affirming its outstanding universal value as a cultural or natural property deserving protection for the benefit of humanity. Delphi is a Panhellenic sanctuary of international fame whose remains represent some of the foremost events of art and architecture. The sanctuary unites the natural and historical environment in a unique way and is connected to numerous key events in Greek history that affected the progress of civilization.
