Clarence C. Schaub entered the meat business with his brother, J.C. Schaub, in 1894 at the corner of Lake and Main. In 1900, Clarence sold his share of the business and headed west. Three years later, he returned to Boyne City, built a new store, and again opened a meat market a few doors from his first store. He stocked the very best cuts of meat, poultry, and game, and sold most of his goods to the many lumbering camps in the Boyne City area. In 1913, he married Iva Miller, and they had a daughter, Virginia, who later married Arne Hegerbert. The family owned the building until 1961.
