Coso Hot Springs is a geothermal spring complex in the Coso Volcanic Field of eastern California's Mojave Desert, where hot mineral water rises through a landscape shaped by volcanic activity and scarce water. Long significant to Native peoples, it served as a traditional cultural and healing place for the Coso people and later for the Northern Paiute and Timbisha, whose descendants still hold ceremonies there. Nearby Big and Little Petroglyph Canyons contain more than 20,000 mostly undisturbed images in the distinctive Coso style, among the largest known concentrations of prehistoric rock art in North America. The site is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
