Owensville Village Hall began as a Methodist Episcopal church built in 1859 and later housed a Church of Christ before the village purchased it in 1988 for use as the village hall. On July 14, 1863, Confederate States General John Hunt Morgan’s Raiders rode their horses into the building to capture a man who had shot at them from the steeple. The village, first known as Boston, was settled in 1832, renamed Owensville by William Owens, the first postmaster, laid out in 1836 by James McKinnie, and incorporated in 1867 with 77 acres.
