In the early 1800's, John and James Richardson settled at the crossroads of two Indian trails and built a log structure for use as a tavern. People fleeing the burning of Buffalo in 1813 took refuge there, and DeWitt Clinton and his party stayed there in 1815 on the way to Batavia to discuss plans for the Erie Canal. The original tavern burned about 1813, and about 1831 the Richardsons built a new brick house from red clay found on the farm. In 1962 the property was sold to the School District for construction of a new Junior Senior High School, and the brick building was leveled in 1963.
