Space Shuttle Discovery’s main landing gear tire flew on mission STS-82, a ten-day shuttle mission servicing the Hubble Telescope. During the mission, Discovery traveled 4.1 million miles and reached a maximum altitude of 360 statute miles. The shuttle touched down on February 21, 1997, at 3:32:26 am EST on Runway 33, and the tire’s rollout distance was 7,066 feet over 60 seconds. The flown tire, on loan from NASA National Aeronautics and Space Administration, was manufactured by Michelin in Norwood, NC, and weighed 205 pounds, measured 42 inches in diameter, and was inflated to 340 psi with nitrogen.
