Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield, Connecticut, occupies 172 acres on the southwestern shore of Squantz Pond and is managed alongside neighboring Pootatuck State Forest as a compact lakeside recreation area. Established in 1926 through the purchase of a 138-acre farm, it takes its name from Chief Squantz of the Schaghticoke tribe, linking the site to regional Native history. The park is known for swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and nature study, with trails extending into adjacent forest. After multiple drownings in unguarded areas between 1996 and 2011, officials closed hazardous spots and strengthened beach and lifeguard safety measures.
