Galleta Meadows Estate
Arts & Culture
Galleta Meadows Estate in Borrego Springs, California, is a privately owned but unfenced desert landscape filled with more than 130 large outdoor metal sculptures. Commissioned by Dennis Avery and created by Ricardo Breceda, the works are scattered across separate plots of conserved land, making the desert itself part of the experience rather than placing the art in a formal museum setting. The sculptures range from dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals to scorpions, bighorn sheep, and symbolic human figures. Best known for its roughly 350-foot dragon emerging from the sand, the estate has become both an open-air art destination and a roadside attraction within the Sonoran desert.
