John Crowe Ransom (1888-1974) was a noted poet, editor, and educator and one of a group of southern agrarian poets known as the Fugitives. His first teaching position, at age 17, was at Taylorsville High School from 1905 to 1906. He later became a distinguished professor at Vanderbilt University and at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
