Frank Lloyd Wright designed the K. C. DeRhodes House in South Bend, Indiana, in 1906 for Laura and Kersey DeRhodes, making it his first house in Indiana. A Prairie style residence, it is one of only eight known Wright house designs in the state and one of two in South Bend. Its cruciform plan, open main floor, terraces, and strong horizontal exterior embody key Prairie School features. The DeRhodes family occupied it for decades, and after later ownership by a church and use as a Masonic clubhouse, a long restoration begun in 1978 helped preserve it as a privately owned home of lasting architectural importance.
