Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness is an 11,712-acre protected area in southwestern Utah on the southern edge of Dixie National Forest, within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area. Designated on March 30, 2009, it preserves a natural transition zone where the Colorado Plateau meets the Mojave Desert. Its varied landscape supports desert plants, riparian growth along intermittent streams, and higher-slope pinyon-juniper habitat near the Pine Valley Mountains. The area also provides habitat for diverse wildlife, including mule deer, mountain lion, Gila monster, chuckawalla, and the federally threatened desert tortoise, as well as many birds of prey. Recreation is restricted to non-motorized uses such as hiking, horseback riding, climbing, and wildlife viewing.
