Founded in 1936, the University of California, Davis Arboretum is a roughly 100-acre public garden and university collection along the old north channel of Putah Creek on the south side of the UC Davis campus. Open year-round and free of charge, it includes a 3.5-mile paved loop used by walkers, joggers, and cyclists. Its approximately 22,000 trees and plants emphasize species suited to Mediterranean climates, making it an important horticultural resource for California’s Central Valley. Divided into 17 gardens and collections, it supports research and teaching while combining public access, scientific study, and sustainable, climate-focused planting.
