Havasu Falls, or Havasuw Hagjahgeevma, is the best known waterfall on Havasu Creek in Arizona’s Grand Canyon, within Havasupai tribal lands near Supai. Its blue-green water, colored by a high concentration of calcium carbonate, plunges about 90 to 100 feet into pools and helps form nearby travertine dams. Flash floods have repeatedly altered the waterfall’s shape; before a 1910 flood it was known as Bridal Veil Falls, and the notch that now concentrates the flow first appeared then and has shifted since. Reached by a long hike, the falls remain most significant as a Havasupai landmark distinguished by vivid water and a form continually reshaped by nature.
