The young men of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1252 built much of what remains in the park, including the comfort station and concession stand, using heavy stone and wooden timbers that they quarried and sawed themselves. They completed the Area 3 comfort station in 1937, shaping stones on benches set in the foreground, and built the Area 3 concession stand between 1939 and 1940. During winter, a small shed and a larger barn were used for cutting and shaping some of the stones, which were numbered so they could be easily assembled when the weather improved. From 1933 to 1942, the Civilian Conservation Corps rescued roughly two million men from poverty and provided jobs doing badly needed conservation work during the Great Depression, and Company 1252 was housed at Hamlin Beach State Park from 1935 to 1941.
