Planted from a slip of Mission variety grape, this single vine eventually grew to cover half an acre, with a massive trunk reaching nearly 10 feet in diameter. Its shady arbor served as the county’s first polling place and as a site for social gatherings and community meetings. In 1895, the vine produced an astounding 10 tons of grapes.
