Carpinteria State Beach is a protected public beach in California’s state park system in the city of Carpinteria, about 12 miles south of Santa Barbara. Established in 1932, it extends 4,685 feet along the coast and covers 62 acres at 205 Palm Avenue. Its broad beachfront and easy access to town have made it a long-standing recreational destination on the Southern California coast, with opportunities for bird watching, swimming, surf fishing, nature walks, camping, and exploring tidepools. Just south lies the Carpinteria Harbor Seal Preserve and rookery, one of only four remaining harbor seal rookeries on the Southern California coast, adding ecological importance to the area.
