The Brattleboro Museum and Art Center is a downtown Vermont art museum founded in 1972 in Brattleboro’s former Union Station, a 1915 quartzite building that had long served rail travelers and public life. As a non-collecting museum, it focuses on changing seasonal exhibitions by regional and international artists rather than a permanent collection. Volunteers sustained its early years, and the hiring of W. Ron Foulds in 1981 marked a move toward professional administration. The museum also developed educational programs and community uses, remained part of Brattleboro’s Gallery Walk, and in 2019 announced a $30 million expansion while continuing to blend contemporary art with the character of a historic station.
