Ten thousand two hundred volunteers in the 4th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th Vermont Regiments and the 1st Vermont Light Battery encamped here and were mustered into Union service before departing for the field. Upon this ground also four thousand six hundred and sixty six veterans, survivors of the great struggle, were successfully mustered out.
