Anders Petter Lundborg, Gustof Lundborg, Lars Lundborg, Anders Petter Broberg, his wife Christina, their children Johannes, Andrias, and Christina, their relative Johannes Nilson, Daniel Petter Broberg, his wife Annastina, and their children Alfred and Johon Albert were Swedish immigrants connected to Vargorda, Westergotland, Sweden, who settled at West Lake, Minnesota, after arriving in North America in 1858, 1860, and 1861. All of these persons, members of the Swedish Lutheran Church, were massacred by Sioux Indians on August 20, 1862, while on their way home from a religious meeting held at the house of Andrias Lundborg in Kandiyohi County and conducted by Rev. Andrew Jackson. Their names were kept in the records of the Nest Lake Lutheran Church of New London, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Their deaths were identified as the commencement of the Indian War of 1862. Their remains were removed from West Lake on June 19, 1891, and reinterred where the state memorial was erected that year by special act of the Minnesota Legislature.
