Sibley State Park near New London lies on the shores of Andrew Lake and is named for Henry Hastings Sibley, Minnesota’s first governor. Its distinctive historic character comes largely from rustic stone buildings and landscape features created by the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935 to 1938, now recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. The park’s layout is especially valued as a functional example of master planning that reduces congestion between swimming, picnicking, and camping areas. It is also notable for abundant wildlife, including deer, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, mink, badgers, woodchucks, and a wide variety of birds, along with a local rumor of buried memorabilia near the beach.
