Battle of the Broom
Military
2
About 1860, in what is believed to be one of the last pitched battles between the Ojibwe and Dakota, some Dakota hunters found a party of Ojibwe encroaching on Dakota grounds, attacked them, killed several, and drove the rest to a settler's house, where the settler's wife drove the Dakota away with her broom because they wanted no trouble with the settlers.
