A Methodist congregation chartered in 1865 met in the E.N. Hudgins home until the first church building was erected here in 1873 on land donated by Rev. Hudgins. That structure blew down in a windstorm one evening during prayer meetings and was replaced in 1887. As the congregation grew, new sanctuaries were constructed in 1901, 1935, and 1966.
