Designed by the Pontiac Motor Division in the early 1950's as the T46, the M76 Otter began as an intended replacement for the Studebaker M29 Weasel. This amphibious cargo carrier was designed to carry cargo or up to eight troops over shallow rivers and swampy terrain. The M76 was constructed almost entirely of aluminum, which made it extremely light but also vulnerable to enemy fire. The title of honorary Marine can be bestowed only by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, and fewer than 100 honorary Marines exist, including Chuck Norris, Bob Hope, Jim Nabors, Gary Sinise, and Bugs Bunny.
