First Presbyterian Church’s congregation was organized in 1839, and this building was erected in 1851. Its architect was Lucas Bradley, an elder of the church. The building has won national recognition as a superb example of the Greek Revival style. Authorities have praised the “sincerity and refinement” of the design, the high quality of the workmanship, and the overall effect of “quiet elegance and repose.” It was included in the Historic American Buildings Survey in 1934, the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, the Wisconsin Registered Landmark program in 1973, and named a City of Racine Landmark in 1975. It stands to the glory of God and the dedication of lives to his service.
