The Santa Fe station from Arcadia, California, was built in 1887 and is a classic example of the architecture of that period. It was first located at First Street and St. Joseph, south of the tracks, but in 1923 it was moved directly north of the right-of-way to allow enlargement of trackage at its former site. The station witnessed the daily passing of Santa Fe's finest trains, but construction of the 210 freeway made it obsolete. In 1969 the depot was donated to a historical society and moved to its original site at the north side of the fairgrounds, and in 1989 it was moved again to its present site at Fairplex. The original rail route the depot served was the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Railroad, built in 1883 from Los Angeles through Pasadena to Duarte. In 1886 the line was sold to the Santa Fe Railway, which extended its tracks from San Bernardino to Duarte to create a connection to Los Angeles, and the name was changed to the San Bernardino and Los Angeles Railway Company. In 1887 this and other Santa Fe railroads were consolidated as the California Central Railway Company, in 1889 further consolidations made it the Southern California Railway Company, and in 1906 stock transfers and related changes made it officially the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company.
