Within sight of downtown Miami yet worlds away, Biscayne preserves a rare combination of aquamarine waters, emerald islands, and fish-bejeweled coral reefs, along with evidence of 10,000 years of human history, from pirates and shipwrecks to pineapple farmers and presidents. In this subtropical setting, people boat, snorkel, camp, watch wildlife, or relax while gazing over the bay. Sunshine lasts year-round, with winters usually dry and mild, occasional fronts bringing wind and little rain, and summers hot and humid with scattered afternoon thunderstorms. The average temperature is 68 degrees Fahrenheit in January and 82 in July, average rainfall is 2.17 inches in January and 3.95 inches in July, and hurricane season runs from June to November.
