Jonesboro Union Church was built in 1844. In 1909, Leander Higgins, a prominent architect from Portland, was chosen to design plans to remodel the church. The church is on the National History Register. Through the changes in Jonesboro Village over time, the white church on the hill remained a familiar sight with its steeple almost exactly as remembered. Its original vestibule door still leads into the vestry, and the sanctuary retains the familiar pulpit and original stained glass windows. On Sunday mornings, citizens could be found at worship much as they had long ago, and the little church on the hill remained a constant presence over time.
