Kickapoo Cavern State Park is a 6,368-acre Texas park north of Brackettville that spans Kinney and Edwards counties. Opened in 1991 and managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, it is known for rugged terrain, a cave system of 20 known caves, and distinctive dry-country wildlife. Kickapoo Cavern, the park’s namesake, stretches about a quarter mile and is accessible only through primitive Saturday tours with reservations. Above ground, the park offers mountain biking, hiking, and birding routes. Its mix of notable birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians makes it both a recreation destination and an important protected natural area.
