Elijah Combs came with his parents and seven brothers to Kentucky in 1790. He was the first settler here and a leader in forming the county, which was named for Com. Oliver Hazard Perry in 1821. He deeded the land on which Hazard stands to trustees in 1826 and was a member of the Legislature in 1840.
