Education
Horsebarn Hill has been a familiar landmark since the University's founding in 1881 as the Storrs Agricultural School, offering successive generations of students a sweeping view of the changing campus landscape and the Eastern Connecticut countryside. To the south lies Valentine Meadow, part of the original Storrs family homestead and a stomping ground for University horses. At the north end of Horsebarn Hill Road stands the Jacobson Barn, acquired in 1918 from a local family as the young campus expanded beyond its original 170 acres. Nearby, the UConn Dairy Bar has long been a popular destination for the University community and campus visitors, and ice cream production has been maintained at the University since the first half of the 20th century.
