Nature
Wolf Rock in Mansfield, Connecticut, is a long-recognized local landmark centered on a large glacial erratic of gneiss and quartz conglomerate perched atop a cliff in a rugged landscape of ledges, crags, and scattered boulders. Known by several historic names, it was mentioned in deeds as early as the eighteenth century, reflecting its longstanding place in the area. The surrounding 108-acre Wolf Rock Nature Preserve, the first land acquired by Joshua’s Trust, includes part of the Nipmuck Trail, adjoins Sawmill Brook Preserve, and draws hikers and rock climbers. Its name is usually linked to wolves once found nearby, and the rock was later incorporated into a viewing tower.
