Manor Borough was incorporated in 1890 and had its own railroad stop, Manor Station. The Pennsylvania Railroad main line was built in 1852, ran from Manor Borough into North Huntingdon Township, and as a pioneering railroad in this part of the state helped develop the southwestern Pennsylvania coal industry. Norfolk Southern now owns the railroad, and Manor may not have existed without the railroads or mines in the area. The last remaining piece of the old railroad station is a buffer stop, or bumper, which prevented trains from going past the end of the track. The site later became a parking lot that demonstrates stormwater management through rain gardens, permeable pavers, concrete curbs and curb cuts, and native trees and shrubs that help runoff infiltrate into the soil, reduce pollution flowing into streams and rivers, and replenish groundwater.
