A veterans memorial honors all the men and women who served in the five branches of the US military and gives thanks for their service and sacrifice. Its sculpture rests on a triangular base representing the folded American flag and symbolizing the support of the American people. Three rifles with barrels down form a pyramid symbolizing the fallen: a 1903 Springfield rifle used during WWI, an M-1 Garand rifle from WWII, and an M-16 rifle representing the Vietnam War to the modern era. The gun stocks meet in the middle, and atop the pyramid is a steel pot combat helmet used from WWII through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Beneath the pyramid is a Civil War era bugle that unifies the composition. It also includes Major Michael Davis O'Donnell's poem beginning "If you are able, save for them a place inside of you," dated January 1, 1970, Dak To, Vietnam, and notes that Major O'Donnell was killed in action in Cambodia on March 24, 1970.
