Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, is a seventeen point six-acre botanical garden in Wichita, Kansas, opened in 1987 through a partnership between the Wichita Area Garden Council and the city. Beginning with four gardens, it expanded into a large complex of themed landscapes and plant collections, including aquatic plantings, a tropical greenhouse, junipers, peonies, roses, rock and woodland gardens, a sensory garden, and a Xeriscape demonstration area. Its butterfly garden and butterfly house broaden its seasonal appeal. Major additions since 2011 include the Downing Children’s Garden, a restored carousel from Joyland Amusement Park, and an events center, reflecting Botanica’s dual role as both public garden and community venue.
