Blue Mountain College was founded in 1873 as a Christian liberal arts college for women. Significant events since its founding include affiliation with the Mississippi Baptist Convention in 1920, the addition of a ministerial program for men in 1956, becoming fully coeducational in 2005, and the addition of graduate study in 2007. The college offers a variety of undergraduate liberal arts majors and one graduate program in elementary education. It promotes intellectual integrity, academic excellence, social awareness, and Christian character, attracting students committed to scholarship, servant leadership, and service in church and community. In Blue Mountain in the hills of Tippah County, Mississippi, the student-centered campus has a beautiful natural setting, a low faculty-student ratio, and a climate of personal attention, respect, inclusion, and high expectations.
