The Conklin Hotel
History
1
In the mid 1800s, squatters occupied land and building structures without legal rights, and the Conklin Hotel was such a case. Built circa 1858 in anticipation of people arriving along the newly constructed Telegraph Road nearby, the building, known as the Conklin Tavern, had [?] guest rooms, a bar room, and the first restaurant in town. It became the principal landmark of the Orinda area in its time.
