Will Rogers State Beach is a California state beach on Santa Monica Bay in Pacific Palisades, stretching about 1.75 miles along a prominent Los Angeles shoreline. Named for Will Rogers, it grew from coastal land he assembled in the 1920s. After his death in 1935, Betty Rogers arranged for the oceanfront to go to the state, and the beach was dedicated in 1942; another portion of the family ranch became Will Rogers State Historic Park in 1944. The beach is now a heavily used recreation area with surfing, courts, trails, and other facilities, while also preserving ties to earlier coastal history, local LGBT use, and film production.
