Moore's Knob is the highest peak in North Carolina's Sauratown Mountains, an isolated remnant of the larger Blue Ridge system, and it dominates the surrounding skyline within Hanging Rock State Park. Rising 2,579 feet above sea level and more than 1,700 feet above nearby lowlands, the mountain is notable for its steep relief and rugged, deeply eroded slopes. Its north side includes Moore's Wall, a rock cliff more than 400 feet high that is visible from afar and draws rock climbers. The summit, marked by an abandoned fire lookout tower, offers broad views and has made the mountain one of the park's principal natural landmarks.
