The Duck Creek Aqueduct was originally built in 1843 to carry the canal over Duck Creek 16 feet below. Flood waters in 1847 destroyed that aqueduct, and it was soon replaced by the present 70-foot Burr arch truss structure. It is the only known covered wooden aqueduct still operating in the United States. In 1973 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1992 it was designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
